2.2. Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) Quang Tri

The Quang Tri Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) is an important historical site during the Vietnam War, located along the 17th parallel, which is the temporary boundary between North and South Vietnam according to the 1954 Geneva Agreement. The Quang Tri DMZ stretches about 5 km on each side of the Ben Hai River, in Vinh Linh district (Quang Tri, the North) and Gio Linh district (Quang Tri, the South). Hoa Lo Prison was built by the French colonialists in 1896, initially named "Maison Centrale.". During the Indochina War and Vietnam War, this place detained many Vietnamese revolutionary soldiers and American prisoners of war.
In 1993, the Vietnamese government decided to change the use of Hoa Lo prison into a historical site of Hanoi to honor the heroes who sacrificed here for the independence and freedom of the nation. The My Lai Massacre Memorial Site (Son My Remnants Area) commemorates the Son My massacre committed by a force of the United States Army on the morning of March 16, 1968, during the Vietnam War. The My Lai massacre was one of the most brutal war crimes in the history of the Vietnam War. Son My Relics Area was built to commemorate the victims and condemn war crimes, displaying artifacts, images, and documents related to the massacre.

2.7. Independence Palace

Independence Palace, also known as Norodom Palace, is the place where President of the Republic of Vietnam Duong Van Minh had to go on the radio to read the declaration of unconditional surrender to the Revolutionary government. From here, Vietnam's history turned to a new page, and this place became a historical relic symbolic of the spirit of great national unity.
